What a QR code is good for (and what it isn't)
A QR code is a picture that stores text. That is all it is. When a phone camera reads it, it recovers that text and the operating system decides what to do with it: a web address opens the browser, WiFi credentials offer to join the network, a contact card offers to save it to your address book. All of the information travels inside the picture itself, not on a server.
That has one practical consequence worth understanding before you print anything: a code generated here cannot be edited afterwards. If you print 500 flyers with a code pointing at the wrong address, you reprint 500 flyers. In exchange it never stops working, it never lands on a "this link has expired" page, and it does not depend on this site still being around in five years.
Codes that let you change the destination after printing are a different animal: they store a short link to an intermediary server that redirects to the real destination. You gain the ability to edit it and to count scans, and you lose independence: if that service shuts down or you stop paying the plan, every code you printed dies with it. We only generate the first kind, and we can do it for free precisely because there is no server to keep running.
Why AnyQR is different
"Free" on the internet usually comes with an asterisk: the generator that asks for your email before letting you download, the QR that comes out with a watermark, the code that works until the trial ends. AnyQR has no asterisk, and it isn't a marketing promise but a technical limitation: because the code is built inside your browser and the content travels inside the QR itself, we have no way to hold it back, watermark it or charge you for it later.
The PNG or SVG you download is yours in the most literal sense: no watermark, no expiry, nobody who can switch it off remotely. If AnyQR disappeared tomorrow, every code generated here would keep working exactly the same, because it never depended on us.

How this site works
AnyQR is made by 5studios, a small software studio. The tool runs entirely in your browser: when you open this page it downloads the code that draws the QR, and from then on there is no further back and forth with any server. There is no database of your codes because there is nothing to store.
